Morgan Ridge Railwalk Brewery & Eatery, A Hidden Gem in Downtown Salisbury

Drive down Lee St on a Friday night and you will notice a parking lot and streets lined with cars.  Every where you turn, folks are walking up and down the streets in search of a locally owned downtown restaurant where they can enjoy a bite to eat with family and friends.  Head North and and you'll see local fav New Sarum Brewing Company, with their boisterous crowds and outdoor seating.  Keep going and you will notice the lights of Lee St. theater and the newly renovated Farmer’s Market annex.  At first glance, you may think there isn’t much else to see, but when you roll down your windows you catch the sounds of live music, laughter, and merriment.

Figuring out where it’s coming from though, is a little bit tricky.

With my windows down I kept traveling North on Lee St where I noticed pedestrians that seemed to be cutting through buildings and alley ways, clearly heading somewhere.  But where?

That’s when I noticed a sign for Morgan Ridge Railwalk Brewery and Eatery with arrows directing me to turn down a gravel street that seemed to lead directly into the railroad tracks.  "This can't be right," I thought.  And just as I began to worry that I had made a mistake, I rounded the back of the building and found myself in a sea of happy people and twinkling lights.  This is when I discovered the hidden gem that is Morgan Ridge.

What's all the fuss about?

Located next to Salisbury’s Railwalk Studios & Gallery, Morgan Ridge offers a wide variety of craft beers including Sours, Stouts, IPAs and seasonal varieties.  With large garage doors that open onto the patio, this space has an open air, relaxed vibe with a full menu to boot.  Current specials include the Oktoberfest beer, proceeds from which benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, as well as live music every weekend.  They offer sandwich options ranging from $12-$18.  This includes classics like the Shrimp Po’boy with fried shrimp, lettuce, diced tomatoes and a Cajun aioli, and the Philly Cheese Steak which comes in both steak and chicken varieties.  All sandwiches are served with French fries or homemade chips.

But wait, there's more!

Heartier options like the fish and chips, steak, and salmon range in price from $14-$28 and there are always daily specials available.  The most unique item on the menu comes in the form of a Nashville Hot Chicken and Waffles sandwich.  You read that right, this fun twist combines two of our favorites, chicken and waffles and the iconic Nashville hot chicken.  With a waffle “bun” this sandwich includes crispy fried chicken, thick bacon and pepper jack cheese topped with a generous drizzle of their sweet hot honey syrup.

After witnessing several tables enjoying this item, we decided it was a must try and we were not disappointed.  A monster of a sandwich, this beast required a little finagling to get it into our mouths (yes, we all had to try some) but man was it worth it.  The spice, the sweet, and the salty all melded together to create a perfect bite.  This item is so popular it can be found on the dinner menu and the brunch menu.

Oh yeah!  They have brunch!

Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am-2:00pm and includes favorites like the Derailed French Toast, Steak and Eggs and Biscuits and Gravy.

And just in case you are are looking for a little something extra to satisfy that sweet tooth, Morgan Ridge has plenty of awesome desserts to choose from.  I recommend the Tuxedo Bomb which is a chocolate coated mousse topped with cream and a chocolate drizzle.  I am still not totally sure what this concoction is but it is impossible to resist.  Other options include Apple Pie, Strawberry Cheesecake and more!

Morgan Ridge Railwalk Brewery & Eatery is located at 421 N Lee St in Downtown Salisbury.  Next time you’re looking for a fun option with craft beers, wines, and ambience, this might be the way to go.  Swing by and let David and Amie know I sent you!
